June Music

It may be summer, but true alternative music never takes a break. Even better, June is a huge month for international, national, and local true alternative music.

The Hives continue momentum, transitioning from the release of the single, “Go Right Ahead,” and playing Coachella this spring to the release of their new album “Lex Hives”. The full-length hits shelves and online stores on June 5.

Ty Segall is on a roll this year, writing a new single with White Fence called “Hair” and producing Heavy Creams’ album “Super Treatment.” This month is all about Ty Segall solo though, as his new album, “Slaughterhouse” drops at the end of the month.

Finally, an Oklahoma staple, The Flaming Lips make a big impact. If you were able to make it out to Record Store Day, you may have been lucky enough to score a vinyl copy of “The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends.” If you missed the vinyl, the good news is the cd release hits stores on June 26. This is The Lips’ first release since “Embryonic” in 2009.

For all this and the best of true alternative music, make sure your radio is always on 91.3 FM, Real College Radio.
