RSU students Garrett Powders, Josh Gammon, David Prock, Emily Mahan and Hannah Westlund will be awarded with three 1st Place, one 2nd Place and one 3rd Place award on March 13th at the Old Will Rogers Theatre in Oklahoma City during the annual Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters and the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association’s student awards ceremony.

Garrett Powders received a 1st Place award in “Radio Magazine Talk Program” for his interview with Musician Daniel Pujol. Hannah Westlund also received a 1st Place award for her “Radio Personality Aircheck.”

Josh Gammon along with David Prock, won a 1st Place award for their “Radio Entertainment Short” when they recreated a Star Wars satire for their weekly radio entertainment show “Center Stage”. They also won a 3rd Place award for their interview with Skip Hollandsworth, the co-writer for the recently released film “Bernie” starring Jack Black. Emily Mahan received a 2nd Place award in “Radio Magazine Talk Program”, for her interview with “Collective Soul” Guitarist Dean Roland.

Communicaion student Paige DeLozier, was recently notified that she is one of six students around the state that will be awarded a $2,000 education foundation scholarship from the OAB. She, along with the other scholarship winners from the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City University, Cameron University and University of Central Oklahoma will be recognized at the ceremony on March 13th.

This year, 12 Oklahoma educational institutions participated in the student awards. With over 200 entries submitted, 81 awards will be given out at the ceremony.

Cathy Coomer, Assistant Professor in Communications and the General Manager of KRSC-FM, will also be honored for her 2012-13 tenure as OBEA’s President.
