A Successful Start for Center of the Universe Festival In Tulsa

It would be extremely difficult to review all of the exceptional music that went down at the first night of the Center of the Universe festival, but I am going to do my best. While there are certainly some kinks to be worked out, it was hard to tell that this was the festival’s first year. Bringing in some stellar acts and uniting local talent and businesses really went a long way to make sure this was a success. The first show I saw there was The Mowgli’s. The southern California band played…continue reading →

“Weird Al” Yankovic is coming to RSU and RSU Public TV!

“Weird Al” Yankovic is returning to Tulsa in October for the 25th anniversary of his film “UHF”. Shot in Tulsa, “UHF” tells the story of a daydreaming slacker who saves a small television station with his quirky programming. So how appropriate is it that RSU Public TV is planning a special “UHF” pledge drive on Saturday, October 5th with a number of local Tulsa cast members coming to help answer the phones and talk about their on-set experiences with “Weird Al’. In addition to his visit to RSU, “Weird Al” will be performing…continue reading →

After being nominated three times, RSU “Real College Radio” beats out 97.5FM KMOD and Z104 The Edge to win this year’s ABoT (Absolute Best in Tulsa) award for “Best Radio Station for Music”. The win was doubled for Gary “Turbo” Webb, RSU Radio’s Metal Director, who was attending the event because he was also nominated, for the second time, for “Best Radio Personality” facing past winner Lynn Hernandez as well as Corbin & Biggie with the “Big Mad Morning Show” all from KMOD. His award came first and as he was heading back…continue reading →

Here at 91.3 we take pride in playing some of the great music that can be found in our local scene. You can hear local music in our regular rotation every hour (unless it’s a specialty show) after the :45 minute break, and you can keep up with it on our YouTube page as well. Over the summer we started a YouTube Web Series called, “RSU Radio In Studio.” We invited local artists up to the station, they play us a few songs and we do a little interview as well. It’s our…continue reading →

“The Swon Brothers” kick off tour in Tulsa

Zach and Colton Swon, the famous brothers from Wagoner, OK who made it all the way to the Top Three on this season’s show “The Voice” are kicking off their tour Saturday, August 3rd beginning at 8pm at “The Joint” in Catoosa. Knowing there is not a bad seat in the house, the tickets went on sale yesterday and there are just a few left... If you can’t make this one, I have a feeling they will be playing more concerts in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City area before too long.continue reading →

More musicians are doing their part to help others!

Days after the Boston explosions, which killed three and injured over 200, Dropkick Murphys released t-shirts that read "For Boston" on the front and "Thank you, to all who purchase this shirt. All proceeds go to the victims and families of the Boston Marathon Bombings. Love, Dropkick Murphys" on the back. Within 15 hours, they'd raised over $65,000. The band also played a benefit show at Boston's House of Blues and released the Rose Tattoo: For Boston Charity EP, featuring Bruce Springsteen on a re-recording of their song "Rose Tattoo." "We were humbled…continue reading →
