Rise Up, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that is based in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. This event is Rise Up’s first opening fundraiser. Rise Up’s mission is to provide the essential tools and resources for rural, developing, and indigenous communities.

Scott Batie, Rise Up’s Founder & CEO, was inspired to start this organization from a trip to Ethiopia in 2010 where he and his wife adopted two children. After witnessing the extreme level of poverty abroad, Batie began to brainstorm about how he could make a difference for the children in these communities.

Batie and his wife adopted a third child from the DR Congo, and at that very moment he knew exactly what his mission was going to be. Batie says, “While in Ethiopia and Congo I was shocked at the lack of access to schools and education children have.” He and his wife are both teachers and know the value that education upholds.

Batie studied everything he could find about Non Profit Organizations and the developing world. After a lot of research, hard work, and dedication, Batie formed a team of individuals with the same passion to make a difference in the world.

Batie’s main goal for Rise Up is to help as many schools and children as possible. Batie says, “I want our work to be communal…I want the villages and regions we work in and with to be actively involved in each project, in fact, that is part of our core values. We want the villages to take ownership in the projects. We want the project to be theirs.”

Batie wants Rise Up to be a tool to spread the awareness about the powerful impact of education.

Rise Up is working to improve the education community in Africa. They have a mission to build classrooms in Ghana, and are currently working to build Pre-k and kindergarten classrooms in Ethiopia.
