Alternative Holiday Music is Here!!!

Now that we are in December, it is officially the season to be jolly. My favorite part of the holiday season is spending time with family, eating some great food, sitting next to the fire and listening to all the new Christmas albums. This year, there are many artists bringing all good tidings. From Gnarles Barkley, to judging on The Voice, Cee Lo Green is known for his catchy songs and eccentric style. You can expect both on “Cee Lo’s Magic Moment.” He’s also invited a few guests to share in the Holiday…continue reading →

Local Band: The Bourgeois

The Bourgeois, one of Tulsa’s rising local bands, have been tabbed to open up for a band frequently played here on RSU Radio, The Violet Lights. Just a couple months after playing Cain’s, Free Tulsa, and being asked to do a taping for This Land Press, The Bourgeois will appear at The Downtown Lounge this week. Not being Americana or, according to the band, “the new Tulsa sound,” The Bourgeois consider themselves to be outsiders of the Tulsa music scene. More of a loud, aggressive rock sound, they fit well with The Violet…continue reading →

Garrett’s 2012 CMJ Review

What's up everyone, Garrett checking in after our week in The Big Apple. It has been a crazy, fun and even educational week here at the 2012 CMJ Music Marathon. I'm excited to be back and put to use some of the things I took from all the panels. From social media to predicting music trends, RSU Radio is going to have some exciting times ahead of it. Then of course there were the College Radio Awards, the station as a whole was nominated for 3 awards for the first time in our…continue reading →

Garrett & Turbo’s CMJ Blog 1

Hey everyone! Garrett here taking some time to do a quick day one and two in New York recap. They say New York is the city that never sleeps and these first couple of days have for sure lived up to that. We landed in New York on Monday, technically a day before the CMJ Music Marathon began, but Monday night one of the promotion companies we work with, The Syndicate, hosted a kickoff party called Conflict of Interest. Turns out, Turbo and I were on the VIP list! We got to meet…continue reading →

New Music in September!!!

One month into the semester and the homework is piling up, but so is the new music! What better way to study the whole night through than with great music from top notch artists. We start September off with a brand new one from Two Door Cinema Club. Having worked with producer Jacknife Lee, who also produced Silversun Pickups newest release, a lot is being hyped for this Irish band's second release. If the single is any indication, the new album Beacon should make for some great late night study sessions. Folk-rock favorites,…continue reading →

What I heard, and could kinda see, was Tenacious D!

Saturday I had the opportunity to hear, and kinda see Tenacious D. I say "kinda" because as a short man, being in the pit amongst tall people, the only way to see well is by holding my camera above many heads; but that didn't hinder what I'd say was a great concert. The D opened the night playing the title track from Rize of the Fenix on what appeared to be a bland stage. Halfway through the first song their trademark "Fenix" was erected, transforming the show and becoming the backdrop for a…continue reading →

Talking With Daniel Pujol

Recently I had the opportunity to talk with the driving force of Pujol, Daniel Pujol. Just a few months after his most recent release, “The United States of Being,” Daniel was happy to talk to me about many different subjects. From his newest CD, to recording with Jack White on Third Man Records. From his recent graduation to his opinion on CDs. You can check out the full interview on our Soundcloud page.continue reading →

RSU Radio: Music in July

This month we celebrate the birth of the USA!!! What better way to do that than with cookouts, apple pie and brand new album releases? This July, there’s a ton of new music to celebrate with! Be on the lookout for the sixth album from the Dirty Projectors called Swing Lo Magellan. This album promises to be different from previous releases, and if the hauntingly beautiful sound of this single “Gun Has No Trigger” is any indication, we’re all in for a treat. The album hits shelves in the states on July 10.…continue reading →

Local Bands Take Stage

RSU Radio 91.3 FM always enjoys hearing and promoting the local bands in the Oklahoma music scene. Local music is not only a "corner stone" of RSU Radio, but in fact, a community among itself. This Friday, you can show your support for many of the local bands downtown at the IDL Ballroom during the Urban Tulsa Weekly's "NewVo Showcase 2012." Rising local rock bands such as the "Fiddlebacks", "The Bourgeois", "Harvinger", "Dirty Creek Bandits"," Eric Himan", and "We The Ghost" are just a few of the bands that will be playing. Doors…continue reading →
