Press Play: J.D. McPherson

  Let the Good Times Roll, J.D. McPherson’s most recent album, is quite appropriately titled. Set to be released on February 10th, the record has an extremely diverse sound. It ranges from true rock and roll, to rhythm and blues, to what McPherson is well known for, that rockabilly sound of the 1950s. Press Play: Sleater-Kinney

Indie rock legends, Sleater-Kinney make a triumphant return to the alternative rock scene with their new album, No Cities To Love. The all female band consists of Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein, who play the guitar and sing, along with Janet Weiss on the drums. Many will recognize Brownsein from the hit television comedy, Portlandia, that she not only starred in from 2011-2015, but also co-created with Saturday Night Live alumnus Fred Armisen. The debut album of Springtime Carnivore is mainly a solo endeavor by Greta Morgan. The talented Morgan sings her vocals and plays a slew of instruments on the self-titled record ranging from guitar and keyboard, to the organ and drums. Alternative rock group Dorothy, which hails from Los Angeles, California, released their debut EP in December of 2014. While it only contains five songs, each one of them boasts stellar guitar riffs, bold drum patterns and strong vocals from their female lead singer who the band is named after. Backwoods Music Festival Announces Initial Lineup

It is never too early to start thinking about music festivals. One of Oklahoma's fine fests, Backwoods Music Festival, formerly known as Backwoods Bash has announced the first round of artists. Backwoods is a three day event that happens in Agra, Oklahoma from September 4th through 6th. The festival has been held in various locations over the past six years. Rogers State University plans to still “rolls out the FUN” regardless of the weather for this year's Homecoming Pep Rally and Hillcat Alley festivities. The Pep Rally will now be held at the Will Rogers Auditorium. Festivities will begin at 7pm and fans are invited to come out and meet the Hillcat men and women's basketball teams, the RSU Cheer squad and Hunter the Hillcat mascot. It's a week of sheer terror and fun at RSU! Happy Halloween! Monday through Thursday night from 8-10pm its the "Human vs. Zombies" all over campus! On Wednesday, the Biology Club is sponsoring a "Party with Pumpkins" from 5-7pm. For only $5.00, you can decorate your own pumpkin and compete in some great prizes!
