Zipper Q BBQ Throwdown Returns to Claremore

The 4th annual Zipper Q BBQ Throwdown takes place Saturday, October 3rd at the Claremore Expo Center in Claremore, Oklahoma. Its goal is to raise awareness and funds for the connective tissue disease, Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva, or FOP.  FOP is an extremely rare connective tissue disease that affects 1 in 2 million people. It causes bone to form inside muscles, tendons, ligaments and other connective tissues in the human body. It painfully restricts movement and creates a second skeleton in those diagnosed with FOP. Trevor Powers, is the mastermind behind ‘Youth Lagoon’. Their latest piece of work was released earlier this week on the 25th. ‘Savage Hills Ballroom’ the 3rd album from the group is close and personal with Powers’ personal life. The ten new tracks on this album standout from previous work. During the writing process, tragedy struck the artist hard. Deaths from a close friend, and family member all happened around the same time. The Flaming Lips are taking a look back with their upcoming box-set Heady Nugs 20 Years After Clouds Taste Metallic. The box-set is a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the original release of Clouds Taste Metallic. The album stands as the band’s last rock driven album before taking a more experimental shift to their sound. The Oklahoma City group’s seventh album reaches the 20 year mark with some bonus content packaged with the original album.
