English poet Samuel Johnson put it best: “He who makes a beast of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man.” Tuning in to “The Industrial Complex” on 91.3 KRSC-FM Tuesday nights is the embodiment of that quote. The thundering, mechanized music sends a primal shiver through the body. Dr. Drewcifer is an industrial monster, forging his weapons over the airwaves and into the rusting, boiler-room hearts of his fans.
While his smoky growl and sneering attitude are the essence of his animalistic persona, Drew Nössek himself is merely mortal.Manufactured in Houston, Texas, Nössek discovered his love of industrial music in 2001 with the single “In the End” by rap-rock band Linkin Park. He soon grew a taste for metal and began to file his fangs on other bands like System of a Down and the widely known industrial metal group Nine Inch Nails.
In 2007 he saw Static-X live in Corpus Christi. Nössek was already listening to bands like Rammstein and Ministry, but the concert began his monstrous evolution from bands like Slayer and Metallica. His industrial tastes diversified with groups like Fear Factory and his life’s obsession: KMFDM.
Nössek left Houston at 18 to foster his independence and continue feeding on the industrial underbelly. He looked for a college where he could pursue a passion in radio. In Fall 2008 he began attending Rogers State University and became involved with the college radio station— 91.3 KRSC-FM.
The station was already hosting “Turbo’s Metal Meltdown”, a show featuring an unrelenting stream of pure metal. But Turbo needed someone to host an industrial show to balance the airwaves.
As rock gave birth to punk, and punk fathered metal, metal found its long lost twin: industrial.Nossek proved, through passion and knowledge of the genre, that he was the host Turbo needed. The fire fueled underbelly of college alternative radio was complete with the addition of “The Industrial Complex with Dr. Drewscifer”— the necessary compliment to “The Metal Meltdown”.
Check out the monster that is Dr. Drewcifer on The Industrial Complex every Tuesday night at 7:00, only on 91.3FM!!!!
