The summer heats up, and so does the world of alternative music, and here’s what you need to look out for!

Brit-rock trio The Cribs continue to be a breath of fresh air in the garage and indie-rock. Bringing in the approval of radio stations, blogs and music news outlets all around the world, The Cribs grab the attention of anyone willing to listen, even acclaimed artists like the Smiths and Modest Mouse guitarist Johnny Marr (who even helped the band in previous albums). This time around, the Cribs take bar-room ballads, charming straightforward tunes and indie-radio gems to the big stage with their newest album, In the Belly of the Brazen Bull.

After dropping their dreamy single “Myth” in March, Baltimore’s own Dreampop duo Beach House prepare for the full length, Bloom. Taking some nostalgic and reverb-drowned instrumentals and vocals, charmingly upbeat with some dreary and at times subtle haunting, Bloom showcases exactly why the band has seen commercial and critical success.

Listening to Icelandic post-rock giants Sigur Rós can take your breath away. Their ethereal blend of post-rock and Icelandic tongue has taken them all around the world, and after a number of critically acclaimed full-lengths, Sigur Rós drops their newest release, Valtari. This album takes the chillingly beautiful sounds from their previous works and brings even more to the music world’s table for an experience post-rock fans will never forget. Sigur Rós’s Valtari is slated to be released by the end of the May.

This summer’s just taking off, and so is the world of true alternative music. Along with the great releases mentioned above, keep a lookout for new releases from The Walkmen, Japandroids, Jukebox the Ghost and a whole lot more! You can hear all this new music on 91.3 FM, Real College Radio!
