Down

Sludge metal titans Down made a stop at Tulsa’s historic Cain’s Ballroom recently. This was big news for metal fans since Down is a “super group” made up of members from notable metal bands both past and present. The most recognizable of which is lead singer Phil Anselmo.

Anselmo gained notoriety as the front man for legendary metal band Pantera. This show was particularly special for me as I had not seen Phil on stage since Pantera’s 1996 ‘Great Southern Trendkill Tour’. Though the opening bands, Big Okie Doom (OKC) and Warbeast (Dallas/Ft. Worth) put on amazing performances, Down showed why they’re fan favorites in the metal scene, annihilating our senses and providing the perfect soundtrack for some amazing pit action. As expected, Anselmo was on top of his game, belting out the lyrics to some classic metal tracks and performing songs off of the new ‘Down IV – The Purple EP’. Overall, it was a killer show.

The new EP released on September 18th and is one in a series of four planned for released over the next few years. For more information on Down you can check out THEIR WEBSITE.
