LadyBug Run

Two Rogers State University student organizations are teaming up to host a race with a cause this weekend. Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and Gay-Straight Alliance are hosting Ladybug Run on Sunday, May 5th at 6:30 in the evening.

The 5K race will take participants throughout RSU’s Nature Reserve. Elyse Urbonas, president of Alpha Sigma Alpha, says “the thing that sets the Ladybug Run apart from other runs is that the money made from this event goes to two philanthropies.”

All proceeds will benefit Girls on the Run, an organization promoting healthy lifestyles to young girls, and A Friend for a Friend, an organization dedicated to providing pet food and supplies to HIV victims who can’t afford those items themselves.

“We are hoping for a great turnout and that everyone has a great time. I just wanted to see young girls staying active and knowing they are all beautiful and have something to offer the world,” says Urbonas of Alpha Sigma Alpha’s philanthropic choice.

Ladybug Run is timed by TATUR racing and is open to the public. RSU faculty, staff and students can sign up for a discounted price, while girls ages 8 – 15 can race for free. Participants can register until Thursday the 2nd by visiting 5kladybugrun.eventbrite.com.
