RSU Theatre presents “dark comedy”

todayApril 8, 2014

The Rogers State University Theatre Program will be presenting Stephen Karam’s “Speech & Debate” April 10-12 and April 17-19 at the Will Rogers Auditorium on the Claremore campus.

The story centers on three teenage misfits in Salem, Ore., who are linked by a sex scandal that rocks their town. When one of them sets out to expose the truth, secrets become currency, the stakes get higher and the trio’s connection grows deeper in this searching, fiercely funny dark comedy with music.

The New York Times has said “that topical plot is almost window dressing. The play’s real accomplishment is its picture of the borderland between late adolescence and adulthood, where grown-up ideas and ambition coexist with childish will and bravado.”

Admission for regular performances is $10 for adults, $6 for seniors and $2 for RSU faculty, staff and students who present university ID. All proceeds will benefit student participation in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival regional competition. The play contains adult themes and strong language.

Patrons may place reservations by calling the theatre department box office. For more information, call the RSU Theatre box office at 918-343-6882 or go to //www.rsu.edu/academics/comm/theatre/index.asp.
