Supergroup Diamond Rugs showcase talented musicians from many well known bands. They are comprised of singer/songwriter John McCauley and keyboardist Robbie Crowell of Deer Tick, guitarists Ian St. Pe of The Black Lips and Hardy Morris of Dead Confederate, as well as Steve Berlin of Los Lobos and Bryan Dufresne of Six Finger Satellite. Things are going well for the band, who released their second album, Cosmetics, on February 24th.

The group formed in 2011 when St. Pe, McCauley and Dufresne were hanging out in one of their hotel rooms after a Black Lips show. Camaraderie fuels Diamond Rugs’ inspiration. McCauley explains “You form these friendships with people on the road and might not see em’ again for a year or two or longer, so [collaborating] is a nice way for us musician pals to keep in touch”.

Each experienced member bring their own unique sound to the group, successfully making Cosmetics a great alternative album littered with clever hooks and swinging rock and roll that makes you want to dance. Over the next few weeks, they will have a strong impact on 91.3 FM, as they undoubtedly will on most of college radio.
