Press Play: Toro Y Moi

todayApril 15, 2015

With the release of his latest album, “What For?”, Chazwick Bundick, better known by his stage name, Toro Y Moi, continues to give his fans fresh music to consume through his always evolving sound.

Credited as one of the pioneers of the newer chillwave electronic sub genre, which is characterized by its heavy use of electronic instruments to make a mix of ambient and psychedelic pop sounds, Toro Y Moi presents more of an indie rock album with his latest effort. While the chillwave influence is still there, with “What For?” it acts as an accessory to a traditional indie rock sound.

Through polished guitar riffs, a light use of bass and drums, soft lyrics, and the artist himself on the keyboard, he creates a relaxing, often dreamlike record. He successfully mixes many sub genres of new age rock music to create an album that is part indie, part electronic and a little bit funk. The second track on the record, Buffalo, sets this tone.

Tune in to 91.3 FM or stream the station right here at www.rsuradio.com to hear numerous songs from Toro Y Moi’s latest piece, “What For?”.
