Oklahoma’s free music institution, Norman Music Festival, has announced their first round of headliners for 2016. The initial lineup includes the indie rockers Cloud Nothings, garage punk band Nobunny, synthpop band Small Black, hip hop artist Open Mike Eagle, and the OKC rock scene mainstays Traindodge. Norman Music Festival 9 will take place April 21, 22, and 23 across clubs and outdoor stages in downtown Norman, Oklahoma.

The free music festival is in its ninth year, and has exploded in popularity in recent events. A new feature of the festival this year is the heavy stage for Friday night. The inclusion of the Dallas metal band Power Trip as one of the headliners shows the direction that this new stage is headed. With the inclusion of the heavy stage, the festival looks to appeal to Oklahoma City’s growing metal, hardcore, and punk music scenes.

Local and regional artists are able to apply to play the festival at the Norman Music Festival website. The open-call for artists runs through December 20. According to the festival organizers, last year’s event featured over 300 artists, and drew over 80,000 music lovers. The festival continues to provide all shows for free, while concert goers can purchase a VIP package.
