Press Play: Boulevards

todayApril 6, 2016

Background

If listeners are searching for a sound that takes them to a sexy, sultry and groovy place, then they need to look no further than Jamil Rashad, popularly known as Boulevards. The solo musician is stepping up to give funk listeners what they have been calling for and with his debut LP, Boulevards is answering that call and is cold with it. Boulevards brand new album, Groove, became available on April 1st.

Boulevard’s released a well received single entitled “Cold Call” ahead of Groove’s release. “Cold Call” will have listeners bobbing their heads, tapping their feet, and closing their eyes. Boulevards’ music is reminiscent of funk predecessors like Prince, AWB and Earth, Wind and Fire. He does more than enough to do the genre justice. In fact, the new album Groove is doing wonders to push the genre forward.

Boulevards arrived on the music scene in late 2015, when he released his first self-titled EP in September. The EP set listener expectations extremely high. Listeners were captivated by the expressive fun and funky jams that replayed in their heads days after listening.

This new album goes far beyond the brilliant, well-crafted songs that blessed listeners on the EP. Boulevard has created a momentum with this new album that is sure to leave listeners funked up. In addition to “Cold Call”, RSU Radio is currently spinning “Up on Your Love” and, our Music Director’s favorite track from the album, “Running Back”.
