Press Play: Mattiel

Mattiel Brown is a designer-turned-musician out of Atlanta. Because of this, her songs have an artistic and uniquely eccentric character to them.

Last week, Mattiel dropped her debut, self-titled album.
(Within days, all of the vinyl records on her Bandcamp sold out.)

The album was produced, and co-written with Mattiel, by Randy Michael and Jonah Swilley of the independent record label InCrowd. Michael and Swilley designed much of the music of the album to be reminiscent of ones you would hear in a Quentin Tarantino film, thus creating a sound similar to ‘60s rock with a modern flare.

Born on a farm in Georgia, Mattiel has a certain rustic quality that she infuses into her music. For her “White of Their Eyes” music video, Mattiel combines western iconography with urban sensibilities.
