Press Play: Air Traffic Controller

Air Traffic Controller is an indie pop band out of Boston, Massachusetts. Last year, they received much success and critical acclaim from their album Black Box, winning three categories at the Independent Music Awards.

This year, they have released a new EP titled Echo Papa. The title is of course a reference to the phonetic alphabet used in military and aviation transmissions. This ties into the band’s history. Lead vocalist Dave Munro was an air traffic controller for the U.S. Navy before meeting Casey Sullivan years later. Together, Sullivan and Munro write and provide the vocals for the bands songs. Steve Scott, Adam Salameh, and Adrian Aiello round out the band, performing the instruments.

The album is a feel-good, tightly-constructed artwork. The song “It’s You” closes out the album with rhythmic grace. Musically, it builds and slows expertly. Check it out here:

This week, the band released the music video for their opening track “After Party.” Borrowing elements from Point Break and pop culture imagery, the music video gives a whimsical take on moral revisionism and generational upheaval. Or, you know, it’s just a kid dressed as Spider-Man fighting bad guys.
