Press Play: Superet

Shrouded in mystery, Superet has made a name for itself when it opened several shows for DREAMCAR earlier this year. Recently, the band has released their self-titled debut album to critical acclaim.

As a new band on the scene, there is little information about the band. What is known about them does not capture the true uniqueness of the group. For example, the band, like many others, is from Los Angeles. But, they do not have the typical sound that many musicians from the city are currently producing. For proof of this, look no further than “Loving the Animal,” my favorite track they have released:

The band at times sounds more New York, with its dark intensity, but they still maintains the daydream expressionism of the modern LA sound. Also, Superet seems to be a group that welcomes going against the grain. They are solely musicians with no need for flashiness (or perceived cold nature) of modern technology. Their social media and music videos are artistic statements through minimalism.

Superet is made up of Matt Blitzer (vocals/guitar), Alex Fischel (keyboards), Sam KS (drums), Patrick Kelly (bass) and Isaac Tamburino (guitar, keyboards, percussion). The members met at Cal Arts and are all best friends. The love they share for music and experimentation is evident in every song they have released so far. Also, the band title is Latin for “may it overflow,” so there’s probably some deeper meaning there.
