Ramona & The Phantoms IN STUDIO

The dreamy sounds of local band Ramona & The Phantoms filled our studio recently when they visited RSU Radio to talk about their music and played us some acoustic songs. Ramona & The Phantoms is a project of Kylie Slabby (vocals, guitar, bass, and percussion) who is joined by Chris Rusk (lead guitar) and Jonathan Ainley (drums). They’ve been together as a band since 2015 and have since released an EP, singles, and now a full length album. The album, Sweet & Low, was released on January 1st of this year.

Sweet & Low sounds exactly like the album name. Some of the songs on the album are sweet like, “It Left Me” and “All a Dream” and then others have lyrics that sound like they’re written from a hard time in life such as “Where Do We Go” and “You Make Me”. While the album is perfectly explained by the title, it’s actually named after a flower. “I really love flowers”, Slabby says, “There’s a couple of song names that are named after flowers”. Slabby’s love for flowers goes beyond inspiration for song names. You can see it in the art for the album as well.

Sweet & Low is available to stream and buy on Ramona & The Phantoms Bandcamp page. Albums will also be available to purchase at their upcoming album release show at The Starlite (21+) in Tulsa. The show starts at 10 PM. They will be playing their album in full and live for the first time. Local band Space Horse and Casual Cal from Springfield will be joining the stage with Ramona & The Phantoms at the show.
