Cage the Elephant Release Heartbreaker, “Goodbye”

todayApril 13, 2019

Background

Fans of Cage the Elephant have waited four years for new music after 2015’s Tell Me I’m Pretty.  The Kentucky-based band produced the fuzzy-nostalgic record with Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys.

The new album, Social Cues, is due out April 19th, and Cage the Elephant threw a sonic curveball with latest single, “Goodbye”.  Its predecessors, “Ready to Let Go”, “Night Running” (ft. Beck), and “House of Glass”, have punchy beats ranging from head-bobbing to heart-racing. “Goodbye” says farewell to those upbeat sounds and opts instead for swelling strings and tender piano melodies.  In an interview with Rolling Stone, lead singer Matt Shultz admits the song was a one-taker, as the lyrics so gut-wrenchingly express the end of his marriage.

Cage the Elephant will be heading out this summer for a 30-show run across the U.S.  Supporting bands include Spoon, Wild Belle, Starcrawler, and Sunflower Bean, depending on the date.
