Eccentric, positive, and vibrant are just three magic words to describe Calliope Musicals. The sextet hails from Austin, Texas and are highly regarded for their avant-garde live performances. Frontwoman and guitarist Carrie Fussell orchestrates shows with dynamic vocals and dance moves that only the most charismatic could convene. Josh Bickley (drums and vocals), Andrew Vizzone (bass and vocals), Joe Cannariato (lead guitar and vocals), and Craig Finkelstein (vibraphone and vocals) round up the group.
Calliope Musicals provide a sensational take on space rock with influences from 80s new wave bands like Talking Heads and Blondie. Their infectious rhythms and catchy choruses aren’t just for manic dance sessions though– they have a message too. On the group’s latest album “COLOR/SWEAT”, the opening track Fear This Body acts as a cathartic self-love anthem. “I will not fear this body” Fussell sings, “I will not doubt its power.” As is classic Calliope Musicals fashion, all of “COLOR/SWEAT” is unapologetically bold and wonderfully positive.
