Press Play: Shivery Shakes

Shivery Shakes are a four-piece band based out of the colorful music community in Austin, Texas.  They don’t let their land-locked origins get in the way of manifesting beachy vibes, especially on their 2015 debut album “Three Waves and a Shake.” The debut effort is bursting with guitar-driven summertime manifestos made for cruising in the warm weather. The group mastered the art of keeping summer eternal on “Three Waves and a Shake”, but their sugary-sweet sound has recently explored new depths.

“Weird Weather”, the band’s second LP, was released only a week ago. The lyrical content delves into darker territory and the instrumentals are just as haunting as they are upbeat. On track Paradise, Shivery Shakes criticize the gentrification of their hometown with lyrics, they call it paradise / I call it modern decay / all the delicate tastes on display. Another standout jangle is the album’s eighth track Spooky Surf. The song’s shimmering guitar riffs act as the perfect counterpart for the anthemic vocal delivery. “Weird Weather” is a delightful shift from the band’s typical sunny 60s sound to a moodier style of surf rock.

Want to see the Shivery Shakes live? They will be making a stop in Tulsa on October 12th. The show will be at the Soundpony alongside local band Dull Drums.
