The War on Drugs Share Three New Songs

Last Friday, singer/guitarist and principal songwriter Adam Granduciel took to the band’s Instagram like so many musicians have been doing lately. Granduciel’s stream is a part of an ongoing livestream series named #QuaranTones. On Episode 1 of #QuaranTones, he brought viewers into his home studio for a nearly hour-long Instagram Live session. He began the stream by letting fans know that War on Drugs has been crafting a follow-up to their 2017 LP A Deeper Understanding since November of 2018.

He stated that things were “70, 80% finished” before the novel coronavirus brought the music industry to a grinding halt. Due to that, there is uncertainty around when the album will be completed. Until then, listeners can enjoy a preview of three rough cuts “Victim”, “I Don’t Want Wait”, and “Harmonius Dream.” Watch a screencap of the entire #QuaranTones livestream below, and watch Granduciel do a Q&A as well as perform an acoustic rendition of “In Reverse” from their 2014 LP Lost in the Dream. “Victim” plays at the 7:00 minute mark, “I Don’t Want to Wait” at 15:50, and “Harmonious Dream” comes in at 28:20.
