Woods have announced their eleventh studio album Strange to Explain which is out May 22nd via the band’s label Woodsist. This album follows a lot of changes for Woods. In the three years between their 2017 LP Love is Love and their upcoming record, Jeremy Earl became a father, Jarvis Taveniere moved to LA making the band bicoastal, and both band members helped produce the sole piece of David Berman’s project Purple Mountains.
The first single from the upcoming record, “Where Do You Go When You Dream?”, is different from the psych rock jams Woods is known for. The track rides a linear groove, feeling dreamy and subdued. It also comes with an accompanying video featuring animation done by John Andrews. Watch it here:
The band explained in a press release that there’s a reason Strange to Explain follows a longer wait than any Woods record proceeding it. They stated that it serves as a “sweet reflection for the 15-year-old band, bouncing back to earth as something hopeful and weird and resolute.” Preorders and pre-saves for Strange to Explain are available now.
