New Illuminati Hotties Coming Friday
Fans of Illuminati Hotties’ 2018 record Kiss Yr Frenemies likely dropped everything when new music was casually announced on July 10th. Frontperson and mastermind of Illuminati Hotties, Sarah Tudzin, has revealed the 12-song release is more mixtape than traditional album.
FREE I.H.: THIS IS NOT THE ONE YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR is Tudzin’s way out of her contract with her former label. It’s not so much Illuminati Hotties’ second record as it is an experiment. Listeners may not get the artist’s self-described tender punk sound, but a mix of musical ideas born of frustration.
A week before the full mixtape release, a “mystery” band, Occult Classic, appeared on Soundcloud. As a teaser, FREE I.H., was uploaded onto the mystery account for a short time. Familiar alt-artists PUP and Lucy Dacus retweeted links to the album and account. Those who caught the leak in time speculate that Tudzin and the artists are all in on the mystery account, whether just as a joking promotion or as a possible supergroup.
The single for the release is the tongue-in-cheek “will i get cancelled if i write a song called, ‘if you were a man you’d be so cancelled'”. Below is the vaguely disarming video:
