Freak Juice’s newest LP “They Call Us Juice” set to release mid-November

todayOctober 22, 2020

Background

Take hip-hop, jazz, funk reggae, blues, and a pinch of improvisation, blend until smooth, and you’ve got yourself a tall glass of Funk Juice. The Tulsa genre-blending group are dropping their third full-length LP, “They Call Us Juice,” halfway through next month.

If you want to get in on the album a little early, Freak Juice is hosting a special album release party live stream two weeks before release on October 29. Tickets for the event are $9.99 and give you a chance to hear some of the new music early. Tickets are hosted on tixr. The stream is set to air at 8pm CT on October 29th.

Freak Juice is a group that’s been around for years, but its founder has been in the music scene for a quarter of a century. Tori Ruffin has had a rich history as a musician, performing with greats like Prince, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz, and even Michael Jackson.

Ruffin isn’t the only member with an impressive history, however. There’s Charlie Redd on bass, Stanley Fary on drums, Adrion Robbins as keyboardist, and Christian Mason as bassist and producer. The album will also feature rapper and vocalist Christopher Simpson–who has worked with some of the biggest names in hip-hop–as a co-lyricist.

The new LP, “They Call Us Juice,” will feature twelve original songs, each song lyrically addressing a diverse array of topics like politics, home comfort, and historical issues like the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. The album features a wide array of instruments, with impressive electric guitar riffs, slow synths, captivating bass strums, and even some tracks with a classic talk box sound.

With all that music, there’s lot for the ears to digest in Freak Juice’s “They Call Us Juice,” streaming November 13th.
