Local Music Roundup – January 2021

Happy Bandcamp Friday! Today the website waives a share of its revenue of music purchases so more money goes into the artist’s pocket. What better way to celebrate than to check out some local musicians who would love your support? January brought a ton of local releases from debuts to brand new singles. Browse what’s new in local music below.

Wight Lighters – Rose Colored Glasses

Wight Lighters released their debut album Rose Colored Glasses in early January. The no-nonsense record calls to classic rock greats like The Rolling Stones and 80’s rock legends like Skid Row. If you’re looking for a no-frills southern rock record, look no further than Wight Lighters debut.

Josh Fudge – Fun Times

We also saw a debut record from OKC indie artist Josh Fudge. Fun Times is exactly what the name implies. The 9 track jamboree is full of slick synth beats, sunny guitar lines and soft vocals wrapped in a fuzzy layer of lo-fi production. These sultry tracks are perfect for car rides, chores, staring wistfully out of the window (or anything really). Just press play and prepare to be transported.

Latroy – The MagicBox: Vol. 1

OKC artist Latroy spins an intricate web of smooth vocal harmonies and calculated beats on his latest project The MagicBox: Vol. 1. The record is described as “a compilation of singles and songs that didn’t make it on an official project.” The Magicbox is an intricate blend of pop and R&B complete with masterful bars from Latroy.

Faux Draco – 11:47

Local artist Faux Draco collaborated with Project for his debut mixtape 11:47. The 7 track project is full of buoyant beats (take Boo-Boo for example), unrelenting bass, clever lines and plenty of laughs. There’s never a dull moment when you’re listening to Faux Draco.

Sports – The Look

Norman natives Sports are back with another single off of their upcoming record Get A Good Look Pt. 1 out February 12. The Look is a promising new cut with groovy synth, funky bass, hushed vocals and an overall carefree feel.

When The Clock Strikes – Connect The Dots

Tulsa band When the Clock Strikes released their new single “Connect the Dots”, a skate-punk ripper supercharged with chugging guitar riffs. The track is juxtaposed with a cutesy color pallet in the band’s newest music video (filmed in Ahha Tulsa).

Ramona & The Phantoms – Happy

Ramona & The Phantoms dipped into unadulterated angst with her latest single “Happy.” The track is the latest look at her upcoming record Marmalade & Blood out on Valentine’s Day.

Beachfriends – Slide

Beachfriends channeled pop perfection on their latest single “Slide.” The track is the first of many with two more singles slated to release this winter/spring. Maybe these select songs are precursors to a debut full-length from beachfriends? One can only hope.
