Josie Proto and her Rise to Fame on TikTok

Josie Proto is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter who grew up in a small village outside of Brighton. Josie went viral on TikTok with a song she wrote called “BTEC Lily Allen“. Josie posted her song in March 2020 and turned it into a 3 part video, the first part had over 130 thousand likes and 580 thousand views on TikTok. TikTok is a video-sharing platform, with videos that can be anywhere from 15 seconds to 1 minute long. It is used to make short-form videos that vary from dances and singing videos to educational videos.

The song that Josie wrote was about the negative comments she had received from her songs. The song is about not giving into criticism and becoming your own biggest fan. Josie’s style is light-hearted yet emotional. The song was officially released in March 2020 and was included in her EP called “PUB SONGS: Volume 1“. Most of her songs on the EP were written when she was 16 or 17 years old. The songs are a summation of her teenage years.
