How Dare We Want More of Jack Antonoff

How Dare You Want More’ is Jake Antonoff’s latest single off his 3rd album Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night which, was released on July 30th. This is Antonoff’s first album in 4 years and the reason behind the delay can be heard all over the radio.

After producing for Taylor Swift’s Grammy Award-winning album Folklore and more recently Lorde’s upcoming album Solar Power, the Bleachers singer has had a busy year producing for other artists but, he is taking over 2021 with his songs and sound.

Before this latest release, Antonoff teased half of the album with his singles ‘Chinatown’ featuring Bruce Springsteen, ‘Secret Life featuring Lana Del Ray, and ‘45’. His signature 80s synths sounds and personal lyrics are scattered all over the album; ‘How Dare You Want More is no exception.

The Bleachers singer explains the inspiration behind the song, Antonoff states, “Over the past few years I found out things about my family that challenged some of the myths of our structure. I’ve felt rage, fear, darkness, etc. around it, but at the end of the day I am left with it that everybody wants a little more, and going out there and trying to get it is something that can produce a lot of shame in people. So… how dare you want more? It’s an easy song to write about the people in my life and the hardest thing to do to oneself.

Since the release of the album, ‘How Dare You Want More’ turned out to be a good representation of what the album sounds like and the meaning behind the record. Going through the motions of coming back home, to family, and dealing with love, this album feels personal because it is. Antonoff took inspiration from his life at the time and tried to take the sadness out of Saturday night.
