Kacey Musgraves crosses genres with new LP “Star-Crossed”

It’s been a while since the last release from starlit Kacey Musgraves. After making waves with her album Golden Hour, Musgraves could be seen collaborating with various acts from a variety of genres. Some of these acts include Troye Sivan, The Flaming Lips, and Judah & The Lion. Though she didn’t fully leave the spotlight, she took a break to reconnect with herself in 2o2o when the public eye was on her not by choice. After 4 years of marriage, the songstress divorced country star Ruston Kelly. Kacey even has admitted that if it weren’t for the worldly events of 2020, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, she may have stayed content with the failing relationship.

All this self-reflection, exploration, and heartbreak leads us to today with her newest full-length record Star-Crossed. The album, which is out now under MCA Nashville Records, showcases a change in sound for Kacey. The critically-acclaimed Grammy Album Of The Year winner Golden Hour saw the singer merging elements of disco-pop to her signature country style. Star-Crossed however sounds as if she is diving in deeper into the synth-pop alternative influences and counterparts. Before the album’s release, the “Butterflies” artist dropped two singles. Those being the title track as well as the soft-banger that is “Justified”.

The album is not only a  full-length audio ride of heartbreak recovery, it’s a visual one as well. Star-Crossed: The Film, also written and produced by the singer, premiered exclusively the same day as the album on Paramount+. The 50-minute feature enhances the work as well as the message.

If you thought there couldn’t possibly be any more to the release, Kacey shocked fans by announcing all the dates for Star-Crossed: Unveiled Tour. The tour, which begins in the first quarter of 2022, is joined by two fellow female pop artists. Those two artists being King Princess of “1950” fame and new indie artist Muna.
