Grammy Nominations Are In

Today, the nominations for the 64th Grammy awards were officially announced. Taylor Swift’s Evermore was nominated for Album of The Year, marking her 6th nomination for the category. Now she has as many Album of The Year noms as Barbara Streisand. Justin Bieber found himself in both album of the year and song of the year (don’t ask me how that happened). John Batiste swept the awards with 11 nominations for both his solo album, We Are, and his work on the soundtrack for Pixar’s Soul.

Despite the fact that the Recording Academy has made an effort in the past to diversity its voting bloc and Grammy nominees, it seems old habits die hard. This old habit is particularly evident in all three rock categories– categories in which no women were nominated. Best Rap Album is also missing a dose of vitamin W, leaving Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and Saweetie to compete for the remaining spoils in the other rap categories.

Best Alternative Music Album shapes up to be a more diverse group of artists. It includes Shore by Fleetfoxes, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power from Halsey, Jubilee from Japanese Breakfast, Collapsed in Sunbeams from Arlo Parks, and lastly, St. Vincent’s 70’s-funk inspired Daddy’s Home.

You can view the nominations for all 86 categories on the Grammy’s website.
