Local Music Roundup – October 2021

todayNovember 4, 2021

Background

October was a fun month full of scares and frights– but you’ll only find treats here, no tricks. Those treats include new records from Acid Queen and Rigby Summer, and we can’t forget about the debut EP from Drmcrshr. We also got new local singles from Stepmom, Bronte, and others. Take a peek below (if you dare).

Acid Queen – Purple Peach

Tulsa band Acid Queen released their latest record Purple Peach, a 9-track psychedelic rock jamboree that will keep you warm for the winter.  Standout track “Begin” is a swanky tune that sets the tone for the record– all vibe and no frills. You can buy Purple Peach on cassette now online or at Josey Records Tulsa (and at live shows).

Drmcrshr – Drmcrshr

Local collaborative project Drmcrshr released their debut self-titled EP last month. The opening track, “Frankie,” marked the EP’s final single. It features Bradley Morris on vocals. Other vocal features include Oklahannah, Kodos, and Special Thumbs. It’s hard to pick a favorite with four tracks that make great standalone hits, but “Lucky Star Casino Bartender” holds a moody synthwave charm that has wedged itself into this writer’s heart.

Rigby Summer – Geography

Grab a fork and a knife and get ready for a hot slice of Americana pie from folk songstress Rigby Summer. She released her debut record “Geography” last month– a 45 minute excursion of honest lyricism and warm, acoustic musicianship. You can follow her on Instagram to dive into the stories lying behind each track.

Johnny Manchild – Stars

On Halloween, Johnny Manchild teased their upcoming record with a new track titled “Stars,” marking the third single from the new album. The teaser is an uplifting contemporary rock jam with fantastic vocals and heavenly harmonies. Check out their album release show this Friday 11/5 at the Tower Theatre.

Stepmom – Damage Control

Manic pixie dream band Stepmom dropped a new track just in time for spooky season. The new single “Damage Control” also came with a video that premiered right here on RSU Radio. The video explores how social media creates toxic standards for women, and it sends a message in Stepmom fashion with stop-motion barbies and trippy visuals.

Bronte – Chamomile and Honey

Craving a little atmosphere? OKC’s Bronte crafts smooth electronic soundscapes that will take you on a journey. His latest endeavor is a two-track EP titled “Chamomile and Honey.” With cool synth and muted guitar, it’s just as soothing as the title suggests.

Cavern Company – Slapstick

Cavern Company is auditory sunshine. They’re the perfect remedy for cold weather blues, especially on their brand new single “Slapstick.”

When the Clock Strikes – Dead!

What goes better than MCR and When the Clock Strikes? You won’t be able to find an answer after hearing the Tulsa band’s rendition of “Dead!” Be sure to give their latest live set a watch too.
