Wham! to Receive Documentary and Box Set

George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley quickly rose to fame with their catchy pop tunes, stylish looks, and energetic live performances. With only three studio albums, and a list of hit singles including “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” “Careless Whisper,” and “Last Christmas,” Wham! was at the forefront of 1980s pop culture, defining the era with their music videos, fashion, and live performances.

“I think it should be the most amicable split in pop history,” said George Michael of the duo’s split after just 4 years together.

A new documentary film for Netflix, produced by John Battsek and Simon Halfon, and directed by Chris Smith, will be titled ‘Wham!’. It will follow Michael and Ridgeley’s journey from school friends to superstars, featuring unlimited access to both men’s personal archives. “Now for the very first time, told in their own words,” says a description of the film, “the amazing story of how in four years, [two men] dominated the charts around the world with timeless and classic pop songs.”

No official release date or trailer has been announced, but rumors are swirling around early July.

The package will be available in various formats including a deluxe 7-inch vinyl singles carrying case, a CD, a two-LP vinyl (available in both black and colored versions), as well as a digital download. It’s available to pre-order and is due to be released on July 7.
