Urban Wilderness: Turkey Mountain Rocks!
Horton Records returns to the Cain’s Ballroom for its 12th Annual Chili Cook-Off Saturday, November 8th and tickets on sale now. The event is family friendly and open to all ages with the money going toward helping Oklahoma musicians and local music projects. The event will also be taking donations for coats and non-perishable foods at the door, and anyone donating will receive a free t-shirt while supplies last.
This year’s music lineup features an all-star cast of Tulsa musicians (John Fullbright, Paul Benjamin, Jesse Aycok, Paddy Ryan, and more) performing songs from the album Back to Paradise: A Tulsa Tribute to Okie Music – the first album to be recorded at Grand Lake’s Paradise Studio since 1978. They are joined by The Red Dirt Rangers, Amber Watson and a backing band led by producer and guitarist Chris Combs.
Aside from performances by Oklahoma artists there are many games and activities. Attendees can sample and vote on chili from Tulsa-area restaurants and food trucks, with the winner receiving a genuine, full-sized title belt, boxing gloves, wraps and a three-month membership to Tulsa’s own Engine Room Boxing Gym. Other activities include door prizes, silent auctions, raffles and live art from local artists.
Horton Records is a local non-profit organization focused on bolstering local talent and building their careers. They host several workshops and events throughout the year that are open to the public, such as their weekly Friday Hang series, where local artists can perform and meet other local artists. Most importantly, Horton Records helps artists with band management, promotion, booking, merchandising, and distribution.
Horton Records 12th Annual Chili Cook-Off will be hosted at the Cain’s Ballroom Saturday, November 8th. Performances begin when doors open at 5:30 P.M. Tickets are on sale now starting at $25 in advance and $30 at the door, with kids 12 and under entering for free. A limited number of tables of four are available for reservation for $200.
