Urban Wilderness: Turkey Mountain Rocks!
Hey, do you guys like De’Wayne? His latest album, June, has been at #1 on The Top 10 for a few weeks now, so I’d say it’s fair to say you guys like De’Wayne… Wanting something different? Something funky? Then You Might Also Like… these alt funk artists!
Dante Beverley has been a bit of a busybody since releasing his first EP in 2019, with his latest, Algorithms of Heartbreak, being number fifteen. Born and raised in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Dante incorporates a unique blend of western R&B and funk with Europop-like rhythms. Similar to De’Wayne, Dante pulls inspiration from some of the past greats; leaning more towards 80’s funk and R&B, influences from artists like Michael Jackson become undeniable on his latest track “Liberational.”
Who doesn’t love clowns? Benjamin Berkhout sure does. Benjamin has been releasing music since 2020 (as far as we know) and helped start Clown Corner Entertainment to help him and his friends produce their own music. His latest EP, HEAT WAVE, is appropriately full of swinging, summertime grooves. Combining sounds from MIDI yacht rock to infectious funk, HEAT WAVE’s driving force is Benjamin’s soulful, yet unserious, vocals.
Mostly known for their covers of classic rock artists like Fleetwood Mac, Journey, and Billy Idol, Devotion is The Hot Seat’s debut original album. Taking a step back from the covers they built their fanbase on, Devotion is a funky first foray that showcases the group’s unique sound. A mix of rolling guitar riffs, smooth sax, and heartfelt vocals from lead singer Carolyn Lord almost make you wonder why they hadn’t released their own songs sooner?
