Press Play: Super Pyramid

Super Pyramid began as a solo project by Canadian artist and musician Ben Rowley. He recently teamed up with Isaac Symond to create the album Comment If This Is Paradise!. This album is incredibly unique and well-crafted. Each song is full of emotion and layered with sound, transporting the listener to somewhere long forgotten, deep in their mind.

Comment If This Is Paradise! starts so strongly with “Before and After You,” which sounds like waking up from a long, beautiful dream. The instrumentation on this song is gorgeous, the vocal harmonies are haunting, and the entire thing evokes a sense of sad longing. This is 100% one of my favorite songs of the year. Other great songs on this album include “Better Angels” (which has some amazing guitar work), “It Doesn’t Matter” (a complex, layered piece with wonderful harmonies), and “Lakefront” (a soft lament in a similar vein to “Before and After You.”)

Looking for more Super Pyramid? Check out their 2017 EP, Devoid. Featuring five songs, this EP has a little more edge than Paradise. I especially like the instrumental track “Stations”.  All of these songs work really well together, and they are definitely worth checking out if you want a change from the dreamy sounds of Paradise.
