Urban Wilderness: Turkey Mountain Rocks!
We took some time off, but we’re back with a few new names this week! King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard strolls into 10th this week with their new album Phantom Island, returning to their psychedelic, surf-rock roots. Turnstile’s newest album, Never Enough, was more than enough for them to slide in just below our top 3, with Matt Berninger right behind them at #5 and Nation of Language’s “Inept Apollo” single taking #6. At the coveted #1 spot this week we have Oklahoma’s City’s very own Audio Book Club with Born Loser, and Foxwarren’s 2 (Two) fittingly takes second place with Tunde Adibimpe’s Thee Black Boltz hanging on at #3.
As always, we bid adieu to a few bands this week, with Samantha Crain #7 one week and gone this week, and taking Blondshell and Horsegirl with her. The Bug Club heads back to Wales, with their album, Very Human Features, nowhere to be seen. Somehow, though, Mamalarky’s Hex Key returns after a few weeks off to take the #9 spot.
This week’s Artist to Keep an Eye Out For is Super Pyramid from Montreal, Quebec. Super Pyramid mixes jazz, funk, and psychedelic guitars with a satirical view on dystopia to create infectious grooves to rival TV Girl and Tame Impala. Their latest single is called “Better Angels” and features songs from their upcoming album Comment if you Think This is Paradise!
