Background

Comprised of classically trained vocalists Nya Gazelle Brown, Sabrina Cunningham, and Piya Malek, Say She She describes themselves as “punk chic” and “discodelic.” This group has successfully blended modern, lush instrumentation with retro effects and vocal harmonies. Recently, Say She She released their latest single “Cut & Rewind.” This track is more experimental than the funky tracks the band has released in the past, but still highlights what makes them unique. “Cut & Rewind” trades soul for punk rock, but utilizes the trio’s three-part harmony in a way that their voices become an instrument. Overall, it’s an exciting new direction for the band, and I can’t wait to see what they do with it!

Say She She has also released two albums: Prism (2022) and Silver (2023). Both albums are fabulous. Prism contains solid disco-infused tracks like “Pink Roses” and “Fortune Teller”, which perfectly showcase the trio’s harmonies. Silver continues this trend, but you can also see a high level of growth from the band. Tracks like “Astral Plane” are complex and layered, while other tracks like “C’est Si Bon” are fun and high-energy. I’d highly recommend listening to both albums.

You should absolutely check out Say She She if you’re interested in disco and funk artists like Chic or Sister Sledge. The group also lists Minnie Riperton, Rotary Connection, Liquid Liquid, and ESG as their major influences.

Prism and Silver are available on Colemine Records, and they can be found on most streaming platforms. To learn more about Say She She, visit their website.
