Urban Wilderness: Turkey Mountain Rocks!
Night Moves’ album Double Life has enjoyed a comfy stay in the Top 10 the past few weeks, with no signs of (Night) Moving anywhere. Want to hear more bands like them, but don’t want to lead a Double Life just to do it? Then say no more! Or keep talking. Either way, You Might Also Like… These Bluesy, Psychedelic Indie artists!
This four-piece indie punk band is based out of Kempen, Germany (as you may have guessed from their name) and have been building a local following since their start in 2020. Their name comes from the German word for police and is in line with their self-described “no-nonsense” indie punk. Drawing inspiration from Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes, their music almost feels like a mix of folksy blues but with a punk attitude and dissonant vocals. Hot Mess is their first EP, featuring four new songs alongside previous singles, “D.O.N.N.A.” and “Sad Girls Don’t Stay.”
Blue Imagined is a bit more on the psychedelic, shoegaze side of indie punk; seemingly taking inspiration from bands like the Cocteau Twins and Tears for Fears, Blue Imagined adds energetic guitar riffs and poppy snares. Based in Los Angeles, California, the group formed a little before 2023 and has yet to release an official album – however, a recent post to their Instagram seems to hint at a possible announcement or release for this weekend.
Similar to Blue Imagined, Darksoft veers more on the psychedelic, dreampop side of indie rock with richly textured and infectious rhythms. Darksoft has been developing their sound since the release of his 2018 album Brain, but has truly come into a sound of his own with Rationalism. He seems to agree; in the album release announcement on his Instagram, Darksoft writes: “This record feels like the culmination of a lot of sounds and ideas I’ve been toying with over the years.”
