RSU is growing…again!

New dining hall

Rogers State University is building again…and this time, it’s a dining hall for students. The 17,000 square foot two-story building will include an open dining space with the capacity to serve up to 1,000 students. The OU Board of Regents recently approved the $4.9 million dollar project, which is being funded through donations, university funds and proceeds from revenue bonds issued through the Oklahoma Finance Development Authority. More than half of the funds have come through private donations.

Currently, the campus provides meal service through the Centennial Center which has seating for about 125 students. The new dining hall will provide more seating per meal with an expanded menu.

According to Dr. Larry Rice, RSU President, the new dining hall is very important to the university’s future growth because it not only provides full dining facilities for the current students, but will also fulfill the needs of future incoming students when the projected 3rd apartment complex is built.

The facility will also house a basement/storm shelter that will provide protection during severe weather as well as a generator to power the building during electrical power outages. It is expected to be completed in time for the Fall 2014 semester.
