RSU officially broke ground for a 3rd housing complex expected to complete by fall 2015. The complex will house 312 students in a more “dorm like” atmosphere with a kitchen and laundry facility on the main level and three study areas and lounges on each floor.
Campus housing has been a growing concern for the past five years or so, even after the opening the 255-bed University Village B in 2011. The wait list for campus housing has grown to nearly 150 students wanting to live on campus. According to Dr. Larry Rice, President “Meeting the need for campus housing has been a crucial priority for us, both because of the continued demand and the positive impact living on campus has for students. Studies routinely show that students who live on campus are better engaged and more likely to complete their studies.”
Once completed, RSU will be able to provide 800 students with on-campus housing. The entire project is expected to cost $11.5 million dollars.
