Press Play: Video

todayNovember 18, 2015

There’s a new post-punk group hitting the college music airwaves that has the staff of RSU Radio buzzing. Video is a band who has been playing shows in their native Austin, TX for years but are just now breaking into the college radio scene with The Entertainers, their second full length album.

The group formed in Austin around 2010 and released their first album in 2011. They are a post-punk band who also have a garage and loud rock sound to them. While their latest album comes across as quite dark at times, it is full of great energy that leaves listeners yearning for the chance to attend a live performance. Their lyrics are sung roughly, while the guitar, often fuzzy and distorted, and drums are played at a quick, aggressive pace.

RSU’s favorite tracks come from the first half of the album, where this quick tempo is most evident. “The Entertainers”, “New Immortal” and “Drink It In” will leave your heart racing as if you drank one too many cups of coffee. While still played at a quicker pace, the second half of the album is played at a much slower rate than the first. These are clearly tracks that will allow Video to catch their breaths during their live performances which one can only imagine are a sight to see.  Overall, The Entertainers is an extremely fun, high octane album that will leave you exactly how Video wants, entertained.

The Entertainers was released in late October, 2015 and the group is quickly making a name for themselves. Many in the music industry consider Video a group to keep an eye on. One of those industry insiders is Jack White, the influential blues rock musician and former frontman of The White Stripes. He recently signed them to a record deal on his label, Third Man Records. They are part of an onslaught of artists that Third Man recently signed, giving the label a wide range in sound to distribute.
