Press Play: Raw Fabrics

L.A. based indie rockers, Raw Fabrics, are looking to improve on their popularity with the recent release of their second EP. Plastic Joy, which became available in late 2015, is a followup to their well received 2014 album, Gold Handcuffs. 

Raw Fabrics formed in 2013 and are comprised of three musicians in their early twenties. While they are still quite young, their sound is well beyond their years. Part of this can be attributed to the talented professionals who helped them record Plastic Joy. One of those professionals is Joe Chiccarelli, a well known music producer and engineer who, since the 1980’s, has worked with the likes of My Morning Jacket, U2, Elton John and The Strokes among many others. 

All five tracks on Raw Fabrics’ latest EP are worth a listen – or two. Like the popular college radio bands Hot Chip, Cut Copy and Passion Pit, their sound is one that blends alternative rock with that of electronica and pop. This is ever apparent on RSU Radio’s favorite tracks, “Dead Instruments” and “Move Over”. The bass riffs, electronic tones and chorus will stick with you long after the songs end. The many layers of sounds are capped off by frontman, Jack Franco’s, gritty and distinguished voice. He sounds like a seasoned singer rather than a kid a few years removed from high school who’s merely starting his career. 

All their songs have deep, highly motivational themes as well. Franco explains that “Dead Instruments” is “about encouraging creativity and pushing the envelope” while “Move Over” is “about having that inner confidence and not letting obstacles get in your way”.  Raw Fabrics is currently playing as many gigs as possible and working on new songs. They just wrapped tours with AWOLNATION and Night Terrors of 1927.
