The time has finally come. After five years, Sharon Van Etten is back with a new record, Remind Me Tomorrow, and in many ways, a new Sharon Van Etten.
Remind Me Tomorrow is now part of Van Etten’s fourteen-year discography, dating back to 2005. Her most recent releases, Are We There and Tramp, came out in 2014 and 2012, respectively. The album builds on the back of its predecessors, carrying on a legacy of vulnerability and raw emotion. Remind draws from the last five years of Van Etten’s living, from a budding acting career to the birth of her son. Van Etten not only wears her heart on the sleeve with this one but flaunts it with a sonic strut.
Many of these new songs are biting; they have a punchy, driving energy with a low droning synthesizer to back it up. Dig that surprising new synth sound? You have none other than Micahel Cera to thank. The two were studiomates.
Van Etten is the “Comeback Kid” in her video for her lead single.
You’ll be seeing double in “Seventeen”.
