Press Play: Lewis Del Mar

todayMay 8, 2019

Background

Lewis Del Mar first made waves in the alternative scene in 2015 with the release of their first single “Loud(y)”. Lead singer/guitarist Danny Miller and drummer/producer Max Harwood recorded the song in their two-room bungalow in Rockaway Beach, New York. Although the single stemmed from humble beginnings, it swiftly gained recognition. “Loud(y)” was tacked on at No. 22 on Billboard’s Alternative Songs Chart and remained on the chart for nineteen weeks. Everyone was enamored by the grassroots experimental rock band that combined acoustic guitar, Latin-American rhythm, and wall-rattling beats.

After signing with Columbia Records, the band released their debut self-titled album in October of 2016. Their first record is packed with heavy-hitters; “14 Faces” features heavy percussion driving alongside Miller’s frantic vocals. “H.D.L.” begins as a slow, melancholic piano ballad that effortlessly transitions into an energetic chorus and instrumental breakdown. Lewis Del Mar’s concentrated intensity is a staple sound for the band, but that didn’t stop them from venturing into a more pop-oriented territory. The fourth track on the album, “Painting (Masterpiece)” is a cheery tune with an easy-going melody and uplifting message about self-expression.

One of the most amiable qualities that Lewis Del Mar achieves is a homemade sound. Whether it’s the occasional blips of conversation, the distant chiming of church bells, or squawking of seagulls, they present a perfectly unpolished style. Those who are eagerly awaiting the next project out of Lewis Del Mar won’t have to wait long. A study in their latest tweets confirms that new music is coming out this year.
