The 1975 Release Revolutionary New Single

todayJuly 31, 2019

Background

The 1975 are not here to play. Over the last several albums, we’ve seen the band explore themes of romance in today’s technology-obsessed culture, the facets of addiction, and society’s idolization of celebrity. They aren’t afraid to get political, as heard on their last record with the track “Love It If We Made It.”

The band is back with a glimpse of the second installment in their Music for Cars era.  The first record in this timeline is 2018’s A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships.  The second part, Notes On A Conditional Form, is expected later this year or early 2020.

To continue tradition, the first track of this record is “The 1975.” This iteration is different, though.  It leaves behind the familiar lyrics and replaces them instead with the words of 16-year-old activist Greta Thunberg.  The song is pulled directly from one of Thunberg’s speeches: stirring, gripping, and powerful.  The track is not an atmospheric track to set the mood for an album; it is a call to action.
