What’s New In Oklahoma Music

Oklahomans really can do it all.  This month’s round-up has a little something for everyone.  Whether you’re channeling your inner country boy, emo kid, or indie rocker, here are some locals to add your playlist.

ALBUM/EP

Pigments-Nothing at All
Pigments are back with a brand new EP.  Just a few short months after releasing Pigments, they have a collection of four songs for all you hip kids to bop along to.  If you’ve ever felt self-doubt, uncertainty, or longing (basically if you’re a human), you’ll be able to find something to really dig into with these lyrics. Pigments’ indie-rock-with-a-dream-pop twist is here for your next coming-of-age moment.

Breakup-Miss Me
Are you a heartbreaker or the heart-broken? Either way, OKC’s Breakup have six songs all set for you to swoon over.  If you need more time to mend that heart, turn on Miss Me, stare at the ceiling, and get lost in those sweet, sweet vocals. With catchy hooks and beats, these songs will have you believing in love again in no time.

Ben Quad/Brooding-Forever

This split marks the end of an era. With it, we say goodbye to the beloved DIY-venue Orange House and OKC’s Brooding.  Their track “Orange” perfectly captures a night at Orange House, wistfully celebrating the new found friendships made there. Ben Quad swore they’d never release a recorded version of “Jim Carrey”, yet here we are.  The track comes in at just under two minutes, and you already know it had everyone going wild in the living room of a house show.

John Calvin Abney-“Kind Days”

“Kind Days” is a sweet little single released in the middle of this month. This is the latest single from his upcoming record Safe Passage, due out in late September.  If you’re in need of encouragement, turn this one up. It’s next level hopeful.

Johnny Manchild-“Fortified”

August brought us two Johnny Manchild songs. First came “The Message”, and “Fortified” followed just weeks after. Sonically, think alt-rock, but make it jazz.  The band mixes keys, horns, drums, and guitar to make something all their own.

The Odyssey-“Fresh Air”

Tulsa’s The Odyssey have a new single after releasing their six-song The Stormcoming EP earlier this year.  The song, as the title mentions, is a breath of fresh air. It’s a perfect groove for saying goodbye to summer and welcoming in a new season.

Søaker-“Kim Trail”
This is the latest single from Tulsa’s premier punk band, Søaker.  This year alone, they’ve released two other singles, “Rat Face” and “Bad Habits”.  Make sure you head to one of their live shows for an absolute riot.
