Celebrating 10 Years on The Green

todaySeptember 8, 2022

Background

This week marks 10 years since Guthrie Green was established in the Tulsa Arts District. Throughout the years, Guthrie Green has supported local artists, musicians, and Tulsans in general. The Tulsa park first opened on September 7, 2012, and has been a landmark in the city ever since. Originally an industrial freight yard, the park sought to beautify and help the city become greener both literally and environmentally. What was once an ugly part of downtown is now one of its biggest attractions! The park is a bustling spot for tourists and city natives alike. To celebrate their anniversary, the park has been hosting events all week and plans on ending the week with a celebration concert. The concert will be put on by local artists including U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo, Parker Millsap, and Samantha Crain.

Check out their 10-year bash promotional poster below.

So far, the park has hosted free events like Art Market After Dark on Friday the 2nd where local artists sold their work and musicians performed. Then on Wednesday the 7th, Food Truck Wednesday Birthday Bash where local food trucks, free prizes, free birthday cake, and lawn games were played. Tonight, September 8th, they will be hosting Movies on The Green with Oklahoma-themed entertainment, The Outsiders and Reservation Dogs. Tomorrow, Friday the 9th, the Celebration Concert will be held. On Saturday the 10th, the Green encourages guests to come in PJs to enjoy morning cartoons and free pancakes on bean bags and blankets alongside coloring activities and lawn games. And finally, Guthrie Green is ending their celebration with a bang on September 18th with Hip-Hop 918: Kickin’ It Old School, a concert with performances from rap legends The Sugarhill Gang, Melle Mel, Scorpio, Monie Love, Steph Simon, and multiple local musicians!
