The Rev. Dr. Ray was born and raised in the Tulsa area – out east in the country. As a typical farm kid, he grew up fishing, riding horses, doing chores, etc. The first song he remembers hearing is “I Want To Hold Your Hand” by The Beatles at about 3 or 4. They were soon his favorite band.
From that point on, he loved listening to the radio. A favorite memory is his dad calling in requests for us to the local radio station. Back then it was “Urban Cowboy” country. As he puts it, “Hey, I was young, and I didn’t know any better!” Not long after, in the early 80s, he fell in love with pop and rock music. The records and tapes began piling up.
Several years ago, The Rev. Dr. Ray had the chance to host a hillbilly radio show. He jumped at the opportunity to take my hobby to the airwaves. He spent 4 great years on the air with that The Hillbilly Happy Hour. It got to be too much of a grind driving and carrying all of the music with him. After a few months off air, he started recording HiFi Heresy in his home studio. “RSU has graciously given me a chance to play the music I truly love: obscure (and not so obscure) rock n’ roll with heavy doses of garage and lofi thrown in. Tune in to the show, and be sure to let me know what you think and what you want to hear!”
